FedEx CIO - The next era of the Internet is sensor based computing

Speaking at this weeks Gartner Symposium FedEx's CIO Rob Carter who was named by Fast Company as one of “The 100 Most Creative People in Business” spoke about the the next era of the Internet as being sensor based computing and will be one of their focus points for the company in the future.

The company previously launched their Senseaware project in 2009 which tracks a shipment using a variety of sensors tracking temperature, moisture levels, if the package has been opened, etc. Carter said that since 1979 FedEx's philosophy has been that the information about the package is as important as the package itself.
