Internet of Things Convergence competition
The Technology Strategy Board is the UK’s national innovation agency. Their goal is to accelerate economic growth by stimulating and supporting business-led innovation and they have recently taken an interest in the Internet of Things.
This support has taken many forms including the creation of a discussion group and forum, as well as currently holding a competition (The competition brief can be found here) where they are initially investing £500,000 in preparatory studies.
They describe the current competition stage in the brief as "We are inviting proposals for preparatory studies to explore, from a business and user perspective, the case for moving towards an Internet of Things converged scenario, and to develop strategies and plans to get there.
Funded projects will explore a number of questions in depth, working individually and as a group. We will award contracts of up to £50k to cover the total project costs."
Following those initial preparatory studies they are further investing up to £4m in a competition for a demonstrator in 2012.
