IoT Platform provider EVRYTHNG today announced $7 million in new investments from Cisco, BHLP, Dawn Capital, and the company’s original backer, Atomico. Winner of the Breakout Startup of the Year in our IoT Awards last year, the team will use the money towards expanding operations in North America and Europe as stated by CEO Niall Murphy in a blogpost today.
The company’s flagship software is the EVRYTHNG Engine, which provides persistent digital identities for physical objects. Throughout a product’s lifecycle, data on everything from manufacturing to transport to sale and beyond — as well as that generated by the object itself — is collected into a cloud-based profile, which EVRYTHNG likens to a Facebook page for things.
Since its founding in 2012, EVRYTHNG’s software-as-service model has attracted high-profile customers like Unilever, Red Bull, and Louis Vuitton. Two of the companies co-founders Dominique Guinard and Vlad Trifa are also behind Web of Things, a community that brings together developers, designers and researchers interested in Internet of Things technologies. We interviewed Dominique about Web of Things and EVRYTHNG in our IoT interview series back in 2011.
